University of Cambridge – Department of Land Economy
The Department of Land Economy Founded in 1962, the Department of Land Economy addresses a broad range of issues around real estate markets including the legal, regulatory and policy frameworks within which land and related markets operate and the role of private organisations in owning, managing and developing physical and financial assets within those markets. It combines finance, economics, law, planning, environmental policy and spatial analysis.
The Department delivers the University’s Land Economy undergraduate degree, the MPhil in Real Estate Finance; the MPhil in Planning Growth and Regeneration; the MPhil in Environmental Policy and the part-time Masters (MSt) in Real Estate.

History of WIRE
WIRE was founded in January 2008, during an industry conference in Laguna Beach, with an initial New York chapter. In November 2009 WIRE was incorporated as a not for profit. In 2010, the San Francisco WIRE chapter was launched, merging with the pre-existing WIRE-SF. In 2011 chapters were established in Boston, London and Los Angeles. Within ten years, as of January 2023, additional chapters were established in Austin, Chicago, Philadelphia and Asia Pacific.

Lucy Cook
MRICS, Director Real Estate at Falmouth Fairfax Recruitment
Having completed a graduate surveyor programme and Real Estate Finance Masters whilst at Allsop, Lucy became MRICS qualified in 2009. Following her qualification, Lucy worked for a Property Company in a combined investment and asset management role before moving to a shopping centre focused investor in a similar but more numerically focused position.
Following a few years in post-qualified property roles, Lucy moved to Cobalt Recruitment as a Consultant in the Real Estate team. From there she progressed to become Head of Real Estate with a role that combined working with her long-term clients on their recruitment needs, as well as helping to run the UK internal business in a strategic capacity. In 2020 Lucy made the decision to leave Cobalt and form a partnership with John Clarkson, a fellow Director and Head of Development at the company, in order to return to a full-time recruitment role, in a company of her own.
Hanning Real Estate Recruitment is a boutique recruitment business that prides itself on the advice that it gives to clients and candidates. Over half the Directors and team have come directly from the property sector giving us a deep knowledge and passion for the sectors we cover. We are a real estate recruitment business that is head quartered in London but have successfully completed mandates across the UK and Europe. At Hanning Real Estate Recruitment, we can only do what we do by having a dedicated team that are passionate about ‘people in property’.

The Amsterdam School of Real Estate (ASRE) is a joint initiative of the Dutch real estate industry organizations, the Dutch national government and the University of Amsterdam (UvA). Cambridge University Land Society is an informal alumni society which was formed over 50 years ago with two objectives:
- to give an opportunity for members to meet each other, to make and renew friendships and to foster amongst them a spirit of good fellowship and co-operation;
- to act as a link between members from within and outside the Department of Land Economy of the University, and more recently the Department of Architecture, and to provide opportunities for the exchange of views upon and discussion of matters of interest.
We have more than 1,000 members who bring together a diversity of experience and interests. Some left Cambridge in the 1950s, others graduated last year, and some are current students of the Land Economy Department, and the Department of Architecture.

Lancaster University Investment & Finance Society (LUIFS) aims to enhance links within the financial sector and provide our members with a strong foundation necessary to begin a successful career in the city.
