Excel Shortcuts

Below is a list of useful shortcuts available when using Microsoft Excel.

Navigating around worksheets
Return Moves down one cell
Shift & Return Moves up one cell
Tab Moves one cell to the right
Shift & Tab Moves one cell to the left
Arrow keys Move up, right, down or left one cell
Home Moves to the start of the current row
Ctrl & Home                Moves to the cell A1, top left corner
Ctrl & End                       Moves to the last active cell in the worksheet
Ctrl & Arrow key             Moves to the end of a data block, or if empty to the end of the sheet
PageUp                           Moves up one screen
PageDown                     Moves down one screen
Alt & PageUp                 Moves one screen to the left
Alt & PageDown            Moves one screen to the right
Ctrl & PageUp                Moves to the previous worksheet
Ctrl & PageDown          Moves to the next worksheet
Ctrl & Tab                        Moves to the next open workbook
Ctrl & Shift & Tab          Moves to the previous open workbook
F5                                     Displays the Go To window
 
Selecting Cells
Shift & Arrow key Expands selection in the chosen direction
Shift & Home Expands selection to column A
Ctrl & * Selects the current region  (You will need to hold down the shift key while pressing 8 if using the main keyboard; alternatively use the * key on the number pad).
Ctrl & Spacebar Selects the entire column
Shift & Spacebar Selects the entire row
Ctrl & Shift & Spacebar Selects the whole worksheet
Ctrl & A Selects the whole worksheet
 
Editing in the Formula Bar
F2                                     Switches to edit mode in the selected cell
Arrow keys                      Moves the cursor one character in the chosen direction
Ctrl & Right Arrow         Moves the cursor one word, number or cell reference to the right
Ctrl & Left Arrow            Moves the cursor one word, number or cell reference to the left
Home                              Moves the cursor to the start of the formula line
End                                  Moves the cursor to the end of the formula line
Del Deletes the character to the right of the cursor
Ctrl & Del                        Deletes all characters from the cursor to the end of the formula line
Backspace                      Deletes the character to the left of the cursor
Esc                                   Cancels the edit
F3                                     Pastes a name into a formula
Shift & F3                       Pastes a function into a formula
Ctrl & A                            Displays the Arguments window after typing a function name
Ctrl & Shift & A              Displays the argument names and brackets in the formula bar after typing a function name
Alt & Return                   Includes a soft return in a formula allowing you to separate long formula into separate lines
